Devlog 1: Combat Animations

We have an update on basic combat animations for our upcoming playable prototype. In Nekrolith, you play as Viessa: the last Paladin of a holy order of knights who've sacrificed their humanity to defend the realm.

Viessa's Combat Animations

We began Viessa's character design some time ago (see description for links to character concepts) and decided to animate her using skeletal animation with hand-drawn assets. This was a tough decision since we believed hand-drawn animations would look better. But skeletal animation would allow us to also have swappable outfits, armor and weapons.

At the moment we're planning on having several souls-like combat features such as parry-riposte, enemy targeting, and a few combat spells.

Feral Nekroth Animations

For our first enemy we chose the Feral Nekroth. Though typically used as cannon fodder by Nekrolords in battle, the feral Nekroth is a former human possessed and deformed by the Umbra into a horrifying demon.

It is capable of tearing and devouring victims with it's bony claws and razor sharp teeth. It moves with lethal agility and just a couple can swarm and overwhelm any victim.
